new year resolutionsI have never been much on New Year’s Resolutions. I’m pretty much the kind of person that gets something in his head and goes for it at that moment.

Since my buddy Eric logically came up with this month’s Blogging in Formation subject, how could I resist the opportunity to throw down some goals for 2014. Granted I have some personal goals unrelated to flying that I won’t bore you with in my list below, many of which are similar to Karlene’s (link here).

Goal #1

Launch an aviation podcast. My friend Rob Burgon (www.TallyOne.com) and I are knee deep in production of a new aviation podcast. It is aimed at anyone who loves aviation and would like to hear our thoughts on all manner of flying topics. Rob flies an F-22 at work and is planning to get back into GA in the near future. Between the two of us, plus some special guests, it should make for a good show. More to come on this topic. Watch for updates here.

Goal #2

Triple the readership to this blog. I need your help with that one. If you enjoy reading this blog, please share it via your social media channels or email it to your friends. The more the merrier!

Goal #3

Fly my airplane more…this is always a goal. I believe I had this on my list last year and I did fly a healthy amount over the summer, but spring and late fall were pitiful.

Goal #4

Write another book. I have plans in the works for another aviation ebook. Without giving away too many details, it will be an extension of the blog posts that I’m currently working on called the Icarus Series. The focus will be safety and airmanship.

Goal #5

Mentor or encourage at lease two people to get into, or return, to flying. I have a couple of friends at the office that I have already targeted for assimilation – resistance is futile!

This list is actionable, nothing on here is unobtainable, and it’s short enough to not overwhelm. I think some folks get crazy with New Year’s Resolutions and set themselves up for failure.

What goals could I recommend for you?

How about #3 and #5? Those might go nicely with your personal New Year’s Resolutions.  In fact, I would ask that you please adopt those two goals. If each of us brought a new pilot into the fold or reintroduced an existing one, imagine how our ranks would swell. We might actually get back to the “glory days” of GA.

No matter what you do in 2014, find a way to do what you love or work towards that end. Follow your bliss.
