volunteering at fly insA shout-out to aviation’s volunteers

Flying creates such an emotional connection that it really draws people in, many of these folks actually never fly. In fact, some of the more important people to our hobby aren’t licensed at all.

The good news about aviation is there are so many ways to be involved and you don’t need a ton of money, just some initiative.

oshkosh volunteerThese folks take photos, write stories, create art, and record history. They maintain, restore, and build airplanes. They volunteer their time and energy at events across the globe ranging from Oshkosh to small fly-ins and in between. They design and engineer. They are collectors and educators. They judge aerobatic competitions and work Young Eagles rallies; I could keep going…

It is truly a volunteer army that keeps sport aviation running.

We could not enjoy many of the activities that we do today without them.

And if you are a pilot, you aren’t excluded. Many of you are helping out when not in the cockpit. I have done some volunteer work myself and it’s really rewarding.IAC judges

This represents the esprit de corps of aviation; people helping each other in pursuit of a common passion.

To all you volunteers out there, we thank you!
