Cloudahoy: A Review
Check out their line of headsets, camera cables, and LED lighting today!
I had an opportunity to use a new iOS aviation app last week called Cloudahoy.
I have to say, it’s pretty slick. The idea behind the app came from instrument student and app developer, who wanted a way to track and debrief an instrument flight using the tools that are available, namely the iphone as a tracking device coupled with Google Earth.
This is a marriage made in heaven. Cloudahoy did a great job tracking my repositioning flight from CMH to a private airport.
- Download the app onto your iOS device via itunes – sorry android users.
- Create a free account on cloudahoy.com
- Start the app before engine start.
- Use other app as much as you want
- Stop the app after engine shutdown
- Log on to cloudahoy.com and ‘debrief’ your flight.
There are lots of cool features on the website that lets customize the experience and you can actually re-fly your flight using the cockpit view – neat!
Cloudahoy.com has all the instructions, faq, and examples available to you.
- Probably uses some processing power or battery life in flight, but I didn’t notice an issue on my short flight. I did use several other app simultaneous without a problem.
- It missed a tight overhead approach that I made, so it isn’t perfect. That might have been operator error on my part.
- You have to remember to turn it on – something that I am bad about. I have lost numerous in-flight videos due to forgetting to turn on the camera prior to launching.
- Free
- Easy to use
- Very visual – us pilots like pictures
- Can be a great learning tool
- Did I mention it was free
So I’m a fan. If you’re an Apple person, you owe it to yourself to checkout this app.
