airplane blogginSeptember marked the one year anniversary of the blog and I have to say it’s been an adventure; 100,000+ page views; 650 subscribers; 267 posts; and one free ebook later, I feel like the blog has been a decent success.

There were also a few podcast interviews, guest articles (for GA News and Air Facts Journal), and a couple of videos thrown in there for good measure. I even took a shot at producing a podcast, but that needs some work and the plan is to re-approach that sometime in 2014. My original attempt, was strictly an audio version of each post – not exactly high in personality.

In the end, I learned a lot, and not just about the content of the articles, but about myself and writing in general. Things like refining the cadence of the posts, finding content to talk about, and dialing in my voice, are all areas of discovery and continuous improvement. I am still working on all these, but that’ll be an evolutionary process to be sure.

In May fixedwingbuddha.com was launched, focusing on the epidemically high cost of flying and coping measures. That site is dedicated almost exclusively to that topic so this blog you are reading still gets top billing for everything else – which is a lot.

At the time of this writing, the government is officially shut down; I hope that’s not a bad omen for the next year. The good news is that the economy seems to be rebounding and general aviation is cautiously responding. I am optimistic that we all enjoy a prosperous and flight-filled next 12 months. If that happens, positive topics to write about will be aplenty.

My goals for iFLYblog next year are:

a.) Continue to post weekly or more
b.) Write more airplane specific articles (like the popular “what would I buy” series)
c.) Do more video (sorry if you aren’t an RV fan, that’s my only photo platform)
d.) Keep editorializing on issues that I feel need to be addressed
e.) Sprinkle in educational and how-to articles

If there are particular items you would like me to focus on, please let me know (this can be existing or new stuff). You can put a comment below or send me an email directly. I’ll respond right away.

A big thanks to YOU for reading the blog and providing your continued support!

Cheers,
